Hey everyone, here we go. . . . . .
IN OUR WORLD
Today I am writing from the beautiful Boca Raton Resort in Florida. I had the privilege of delivering the keynote presentation for a new client. I did a multimedia version of the Repeatable Successful Acts platform. Apparently I not only traveled east, but also traveled back in time as it felt like August again. Hot and humid.
This week I committed to the most extensive road show I have done in years. I will be taking the RSA platform on the road for a 13 city 7 week tour beginning 11/2 and running through December 20th.
It’s a combination of challenging and crazy!
My Chicago trip got cancelled when one of my good friends developed back spasms. I know that pain and it makes it impossible to travel so our curriculum design project got pushed back.
So next week starts the road show taking me from San Diego to Milwaukee.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
I am currently involved in a couple of really big projects, each with the potential of high impact for the company. But what really creates the impact? Is it the idea? Is it the execution? Is it the measurement? The answer probably involves some combination of all three, but what really drives impact is ENERGY.
Sir Isaac Newton defined force in a famous three part equation:
F(ma) force = mass times acceleration. Drop a rubber ball and gravity will take it to the ground and that small amount of force will get the ball to bounce. If you want a ball to bounce higher, you have to add some acceleration.
\
The same occurs with any project. You want it to move, you want it to make a difference, add some energy. The more excitement generated by the project the more likely the project is to get going. When the right project gets going, watch out!
So, how do you get that kind of energy in your project? Here are a couple of simple ideas:
- PARTICIPATION: Create opportunities to allow the maximum amount of participation possible. Get people involved. This takes facilitation skills. The more involvement the more energy. Make the project participants feel valuable.
- REWARD: When things go right – reward. Let people know they are doing well! Good creates energy. Figure out an appropriate reward. Anything from Starbucks cards to Movie passes work great. It doesn’t have to be big; it just has to be timely and consistent.
- SHOUT IT OUT: Let people know when the project heads in the right direction. Positive news creates momentum and momentum is energy.
Energy drives results so focus a part of the project on the energy needed to bounce your ball higher!
ENTERTAINMENT
MOVIES: Secretariat: Though a Disney style movie, it still is a really good story.
NetFlix Fans: The Girl Who Played with Fire: The second movie in the Larsson trilogy, this brings back the heroes of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
TV: Do not miss the new Sherlock Holmes series on PBS on Sunday nights. Last Sunday was the first episode and it was FANTASTIC!
BOOKS: Worth Dying For – Child: My absolute favorite character is Jack Reacher and this is the latest in his adventures. Lee Child must have answered my wish for more than 1 damn book a year. This is the first time he ever released TWO Reacher books in one year. IT IS FANTASTIC. Interested in the character? You can start with any of the books as they are all self contained adventures, but you might want to start at the beginning with The Killing Floor.
MUSIC: I have always liked Matt Nathanson’s music and this live version is fantastic!

SOUTH OF NORMAL
As comic books go, every once in a while there is a major re-boot of a character. This time it’s a new look for Superman. DC Comics is publishing a graphic novel: Superman Earth One written by the great comic writer (hell, he’s just a great writer) J Michael Straczynski. It brings a young Clark Kent into 2010. A great idea that should give some new life to the original super hero. It gives the last son of Kyrpton a contemporary vibe as college age Clark ventures into the real world.
As a fan of the genre I am going to be an “early adopter” of this new idea from DC!
