Hey everyone, here we go. . . . . .

IN OUR WORLD

Here’s a surprise – it was a busy week!

I had the privilege of presenting the new UPSIDE DOWN THINKING program in Ft Worth on Monday at the convention center to a professional trade association. Then I was on to DFW and off to Atlanta.  I had a meeting regarding an exciting project involving designing a curriculum that is entirely geared to building the skill sets of support staff.  This idea is the off-spring of the Repeatable Successful Acts platform and deals with the RSA – Attack the Second Level.

I then had the honor of teaching Interpersonal Communications to a group of sales professionals.

I jumped on a plane back to Dallas where I was met at the airport and whisked away to a client meeting.

The rest of the weekend will be used to get ready for a quick trip to Chicago on another curriculum design project then off to Boca Raton to introduce the Repeatable Successful Acts platform to a new audience.

Another fun week filled with fantastic projects!!

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

THE LAW OF WEIGHT – In any system some elements carry more importance than others!

Here is the next of the Creative Ventures Laws.

There is no such thing as “equal” when dealing with a system or process.

I remember the late, great Coach John Wooden one time speaking about how he treated his players: “I never look to treat each player equally, instead I treat them fairly.”  This is the idea of WEIGHT.  On a team of 12 basketball players, only 5 can play at any given time.  It is usually the best 5 according to talent or the best 5 whose skills fit to form the best team.  These players are “weighted” differently than the other players.

In a system that is defined by goals, some goals are simply more important than others.  It is a matter of thinking about IMPACT.

Here is a simple exercise to determine the “weight” of goals.  If for some reason, you have developed a list of, lets say, 10 goals to determine weight, run them through the “filter of three”.  Of the ten you can select ONLY three to move forward on.  Seven will bite the proverbial goal dust and three will rise.  Remember, you get ONLY 3.  This simple drill will show you which of the ten goals have real “weight”.

Weight is about moving forward on points of key impact and impact is what you want!

ENTERTAINMENT

MOVIES: The Hereafter: Damon and Eastwood, what an unbelievable combination once again (they did Invictus).

NetFlix Fans: Apocalypse Now:  Now is spectacular Blu-Ray!!!

TV: Yes, the little Texas Rangers are headed to the World Series.  They get the nod for TV time, though PBS will be running a BRAND NEW Sherlock Holmes series this Sunday night.  The twist is that it’s Holmes in 2010 London!  I am a huge Holmes fan and can’t wait for this

BOOKS:  Hostage Zero  – Gilstrap:  This is the second book featuring hostage extraction expert, Digger.  Since I am in heavy travel mode so I will reading lots of fiction.

MUSIC: I am a big Tracy Chapman fan.  Here’s one of my favorite songs.

SOUTH OF NORMAL

There are lots of travel advisories issued by the US for travel in foreign countries.  With those warnings comes the worry and fear of all kinds of potential danger.  Here are some interesting facts from USA Today:

  • 1/3 of all Americans who died of non-natural causes are killed in road accidents.
  • Driving in a foreign country is the most dangerous thing you can do.
  • An American dies in a car crash every 36 hours.
  • 40% of the fatalities happen in Mexico.
  • The reasons:

o       Killer and unsafe road conditions.

o       Unsafe vehicles

o       Distractions of being somewhere new.

So, stay safe, take a limo or taxi!
