Hey everyone, here we go. . . . . .
IN OUR WORLD
Usually I have to head North or East to hit the type of cold weather we are having in TX.
Today I am coming to you from the chilly, but beautiful Hill Country just outside of San Antonio. I have the honor of presenting to a brand new division of one of my favorite clients opening a new side of the company to the power of the Repeatable Successful Acts platform.
Next Laura and I head to Austin to visit with Dylan and Amanda.
One of the big challenges with an ever increasing travel schedule is working on the road. This week, while in hotel rooms, lobbies and the car, I was trying to juggle multiple projects and new opportunities. It constantly amazes me that with 365 days in a year, how can two clients want the EXACT SAME DATE??
The brand new remodeled office is done and I am slowly moving in. It’s way cool.
Next week I am off to Cleveland, yes, CLEVELAND and yes, in the winter, the heart of winter.
I have had the honor of being selected for a big interview piece coming up. I am way JAZZED about the chance to share idea via an interview.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Ted Forstmann had a bigger vision for what was already a big vision. Forstmann has transformed the sports management firm IMG into a global economic powerhouse.
Now don’t get me wrong, IMG has been representing the likes of Tiger Woods and Roger Federer as well as a plethora of major league stars and is considered a leader in the field of sports representation, so what did Ted do? What did he see as opportunity? Why look at changing success?
The reason is that nothing stands still. Everything is in a state of change, a state of becoming.
Here are a few of Ted’s ideas:
- THE GLOBAL NEIGHBORHOOD: With the world shrinking Ted decided to invest in big ideas that impacted the planet. For instance, he worked closely with Qatar’s leadership that landed them the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He set up a joint venture with Mukesh Ambani, the Indian billionaire to commercially develop the sports of soccer and basketball. In June he signed a 30 year deal with India Basketball Federation to develop that sport including starting a pro league. A big vision of the future.
- COLLEGE SPORTS: With the size of and impact of college sports, Ted saw a huge untapped opportunity. In 2007 he acquired the Collegiate Licensing Company and then picked up Host Communication. He combined them into IMG College. IMG now is the biggest player there is in college sports.
What is there to learn from Ted Forstmann and IMG?
Opportunities abound, even in tough times. The key is to be looking for what you CAN do. After Walt Disney made the hugely successful short animated feature, The Three Little Pigs he was asked what are you going to do next? He answered, “you can’t top pigs with pigs.” You need to be forward looking and challenge the status quo to create a new future.
ENTERTAINMENT
MOVIES: The Green Hornet: Should be fun and I get to see it at the Alamo Drafthouse Theater in Austin!!
NetFlix Fans: Dances with Wolves: The 20th anniversary DVD is available. It is one of my favorite movies of all time.
TV: Try the new NBC series THE CAPE. A fun kind of super hero show.
BOOKS: The Sentry– Crais: A new book featuring Joe Pike, whom many of you know from the Elvis Cole series. FANTASTIC READ. This is the third book in the Pike series.
MUSIC: Great live version of Paul Simon doing The Only Living Boy in New York.

WEB SITES: A FANTASTIC web site. A must see web site.
SOUTH OF NORMAL
A couple of sports things:
- This year the BCS Championship game was broadcast on ESPN, the first time it was off of the major networks. It drew a 15.3% viewing audience. While that was the largest cable audience in history it was the smallest audience since 2005. Might want to rethink that broadcast strategy.
- The professional bull rider’s organization just came up with a great idea of adding microphones to their riders. By adding this sound they created a very personal experience shared by the viewing audience. A smart, rich media move.

I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both equally educative
and amusing, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The problem is something wwhich not enough people are speaking intelligently about.
I am very happy that I came across this during my hunt for something relating
to this.
