Hey everyone, here we go. . . . . .

IN OUR WORLD

Yes, I know I’m late on my blog posting.  I guess I never anticipated that when I started writing this every Friday that it would become popular.  I kind of did it as a way to flesh out ideas and write about things I like.  Now, I get hundreds of emails when I miss a Friday from people wanting to know if I’m OK.

It’s fantastic.    Really – THANKS.

I had a fantastic week in Las Vegas with one of my favorite clients.  It was BUSY.  We never saw the light of the outside world for four straight days.

Then, thanks to another unusual cold front hitting Dallas, we had a pipe break and flood the kitchen (newly remodeled) and some of the den.  Luckily, my hero of a younger son was checking on things and caught the leak before it was DEVESTATING.  So we came back Friday evening and had to check into another hotel until the plumber came out and got our water back on.

Then, for some unknown reason, I get a horrific back spasm while I was packing for the homeward trip in Las Vegas.  It was so bad I could hardly move.  It made for the most miserable flight I can remember.  I couldn’t even get out of my seat without the flight attendant helping me.  Went straight to the doctor, who agreed with my diagnosis of a muscle spasm and started me on medication.  Today, I am at least 30% better and should be good to go by Monday.

Next week I am the road to Minneapolis to teach THINKING skills and continue the journey of the Repeatable Successful Acts platform.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

One of the industries I am blessed to spend time with is the financial services business.  One of my strategic platforms in play within that rather tumultuous world is one called Billion Dollar Babies.  This deals with the leverage found in the highest level of client relationships.  High net worth clients form a dynamic group whose demographics are constantly shifting.  Bank of America and Meryl Lynch recently surveyed 1000 baby boomers with investment income of over $250,000 and found out some new and interesting things:

  • Most believe their quality of life in retirement will be better than their parents.
  • The ages in the survey were 46 – 64.  86% say they will be more active in retirement.
  • 72% believe their standard of living will be higher.
  • 70% say they will work during retirement, not for the money, but instead to remain active and engaged.
  • 26% say they will go back to school.
  • Here are their key words, words that get their attention:  Freedom, Opportunity, Relaxation and Uncertainty.
  • They are more worried about their children’s future than their own.

Based on this information I have two clients interested in my strategy to take advantage of developing programs to LEVERAGE a new way of seeing impact.

Based upon your industry, how current is your information?  How flexible are your strategies to stop and move at an instants notice to take advantage of changing conditions?

ENTERTAINMENT

MOVIES:  The Eagle.  Might be a good action flick??

NetFlix Fans: It’s Kind of a Funny Movie:  An odd but wonderful little movie.

TV:   Justified: One of the best shows from last season is BACK again!!!  Tune in on FX network.

BOOKS:  The Shibumi Strategy  – May:  This is a parable backdrop story.  It’s about balance and clarity.  It’s about an action plan and how to take advantage of unexpected setbacks.

MUSIC: Because when it’s really cold you need to take Jimmy Buffetts advice.

SOUTH OF NORMAL

A little info on tele-prompters.  I see these used and abused all the time.  We use them when we are doing video shoots.  They look easy to use, but unless you do a little rehearsal they can send a simple video shoot into a long day.

  • They were originally created to help soap opera stars.  Invented in 1949 by Fred Barkau an actor who was just trying to help his fellow actors remember their lines.
  • They are essentially two way mirrors.  They use directionally coated glass.
