The FedEx guy stopped by yesterday with a envelope and after tearing off the open strip I found myself holding a copy of my first book – The DNA of Creative Ventures – 21 Building Blocks of Success. WOW! This goes in the category of “things I thought would never happen.”
For 27 years the first question I am always asked is; “do you have a book?” I always had to say “no” and then answer the follow up – “why not?” From there I went into my lack of discipline explanation. Now, I can say, yeah, I do have a book.
I have burned through a number of publishers who were really interested in getting my to write about my ideas, but it was bringing Colin into Creative Ventures in April that finally got it done. He created a simple, elegant and powerful strategy that got me going. Let’s make it simple; why not start out by sharing our “building blocks”. He was in the process of learning them and noticed they would make a nice and possibly compelling read. Most importantly he noticed THEY WERE ALREADY IN WRITING! I created a brief narrative around each one and Colin did the rest. He interfaced with Amazon, did the preliminary design and the next thing you know, the FedEx guy shows up!
